Neuroimaging methods have crucially contributed to the developments in the investigation of the human brain since only these methods have made it possible to investigate intact cognitive functions and their neuronal basis in a large number of healthy people. In conjunction with clinical research our knowledge is going to noticeably expand in the coming decades and new consolidated findings can be deduced from this research and applied to diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to diseases of the brain.
