Stem cells provide fascinating tools for transgenic disease modeling, compound screening, drug development and regenerative therapies. A particular focus of the CELLOMICS Platform of LIFE & BRAIN is the controlled differentiation of embryonic stem cells (ES cells) into neural precursors. Proprietary technology enables the generation of highly purified neurons and glia, which serve as donor source for cell-based assay systems and transplantation therapies for neurological disorders. Further lines of research and product development include the identification of factors conveying pluripotency and adult stem cell plasticity.

The Cellomics Platform interacts closely with the Institute of Reconstructive Neurobiology, University of Bonn.
