New tools in functional genomics permit fascinating insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying brain functions and CNS disorders. The TRANSGENICS platform will implement genotype- and phenotype-driven genomic animal studies to identify disease mechanisms and to evaluate novel diagnostic and therapeutic measures. This research effort will contribute to the identification and selection of novel drug targets, and provide novel animal models for drug screening. The activities are based on a strong research competence in animal models of stress-induced psychiatric disorders, drug addiction, and nociception. Some of the early research results point at applications in pain management, the neuronal regulation of bone growth, and depression.

The Transgenics Platform interacts closely with the Institute of Molecular Psychiatry, University of Bonn.
